Dr. Purity Gacheri Limbua

Dr. Purity Gacheri Limbua is the current Dean of the School of Pure and Applied Sciences at Mount Kenya University. She was the Head of Department of Biological Sciences (Now renamed as Natural Sciences), a position which she held for 8 years (2013 – 2021). She is a Lecturer and a researcher who has successfully supervised many postgraduate students.

She holds a PhD. in Biotechnology, a MSc. Degree in Biotechnology and a B.Ed. Science (Biology and Mathematics) degree all from Kenyatta University. She is a skilled trainer in the field of Biotechnology with expertise in Plant Biotechnology, Genetics and Molecular Biology. Owing to her leadership roles as a head of Department and now a Dean of School, Dr. Gacheri has hands- on experience in people management, mentorship, student affairs, examination management, curriculum development, education management and administration amongst other related skills. Her research interest is evidenced by her active participation in collaborative research both locally and internationally.

Dr. Gacheri is the current chairperson of the Mount Kenya University Laboratory Committee. This committee implements and periodically reviews policies governing management of laboratories’ equipment and chemicals. It also assesses and reviews laboratory functional capacities and recommends upgrading and expansion to the university Management Board. The committee also oversees proper inventory management, maintenance of laboratory equipment and other laboratory materials.
